Indoor state park, historic site spaces closed through February

Visitor centers, nature centers, museums, and offices of Missouri state parks and historic sites will be remain closed through Feb. 28 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Missouri State Parks made the announcement Thursday in a news release all its indoor spaces would remain closed through that date, but outdoor spaces and amenities such as day-use areas, lodging, campgrounds, boat ramps, and trails would remain open and available under normal offseason status, unless designated otherwise.

Interpretative programming at parks and sites has also been postponed, though many locations have virtual alternatives. More information is available by calling a park or site office, or following Missouri State Parks on Facebook.

"Many people will continue to get outside and enjoy our state parks, and we will continue to welcome the public. We hope that our state parks will serve as a break from the stress associated with COVID-19 and provide healthy recreation opportunities during the winter offseason," State Parks director Mike Sutherland said.

Most state park campgrounds are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and some offer reservations during the offseason. More information is available at mostateparks.com/activity/camping.

Visitors to state parks and historic sites are asked to come prepared, check for weather-related closures ahead of time, practice social distancing and follow other health guidelines including wearing masks where social distancing is not possible or where it's required.

Staff contact information will be posted throughout parks for visitors with questions or who need assistance.
