Traffic stops lead to drug arrests in Moniteau County

Two traffic stops led to the arrest of two people in Moniteau County for illegal drugs.

According to reports from the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department, on Dec. 18, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a driving violation on Look Out Trail just outside of California.

Deputies found the passenger, Shannon Stone, 52, of California, was out on bond from Moniteau County for possession of a controlled substance. As part of her bond conditions, Stone was asked if she would pass a drug test, and she allegedly stated she could not as authorities claimed she admitted to using methamphetamine two days prior to this incident. Deputies were granted consent to search the vehicle and reportedly found methamphetamine in a bag belonging to Stone.

The second incident occurred Wednesday when deputies conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 50 near Petree Road for moving and equipment violations.

The driver, James W. Patton, 45, of Tipton, was found to be on probation/parole for stealing, possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property. Deputies asked for consent to search the vehicle, but Patton denied them. Deputies then brought in K-9 Apollo to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle where he reportedly did a positive alert for narcotics. A search of the vehicle, reportedly turned up methamphetamine along with other narcotics.
