Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jefferson City recognizes National Mentoring Month

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jefferson City is recognizing National Mentoring Month in January.

The effort is a chance to honor and shine a light on the importance of mentors for children.

BBBS of Jefferson City operates under the belief that every child has incredible potential. BBBS develops positive relationships that have direct and lasting effects on the lives of youths. These relationships push them to higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships, according to a BBBS news release.

During Mentoring Month, the organization encourages people to consider becoming mentors for area youngsters.

Being a "big" means committing to spending a few hours a month with a young person participating in activities you both enjoy, like playing a sport, reading at the library or learning how to cook.
