After getting 2-5 inches of snow Tuesday, Mid-Missouri is expected to see 1-2 inches more this morning.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis issued a winter weather advisory from midnight-6 p.m. Wednesday that includes Cole, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan and Osage counties.
The snow was expected to fall during periods before 11 a.m. on Wednesday with patchy fog between 7 a.m. and noon.
"Not great timing in terms of people's daily commute into work, so that's a concern," NWS meteorologist Jayson Gosselin said.
Most of the Jefferson City area received 3-4 inches of snow Tuesday. Other Mid-Missouri areas, such as northern Boone County, got about 2 inches, with some sporadic areas seeing more than 4 inches.
Wednesday morning's snow will likely be uniform, Gosselin said.
The NWS's wind chill warning expired at noon Tuesday as temperatures warmed to double digits. Temperatures are expected to hit 20 degrees Wednesday.
Cole County Public Works has 25 trucks out during this weather, and each has its own route spread throughout the county.
Paved roads in the county are prioritized first. Once the paved roads are "decent," the drivers treat the gravel roads, Public Works Director Eric Landwehr said.
Road conditions were much better Tuesday than they were Monday, as sunlight allowed road treatment chemicals to melt the snow, but snow remained in some areas, especially in the shade, Landwehr said.
"They'll start to cover up pretty quickly again (this morning), but we'll be ready to go out when it comes," he said.
The Jefferson City Operations Division prioritizes its primary snow routes first. Once those are in good condition, the drivers make their way to subdivision streets.
Although they made good progress on the roads Tuesday, they'll likely be starting over this morning.
Jefferson City Operations Division Director Britt Smith advises delaying morning travel if possible today.
"If they can delay that for a little bit until after the snow stops and give us an hour or two, it'd certainly make their lives easier, and we'll have those roads as safe as we can, as quickly as we can," he said.
The NWS and Missouri Department of Transportation advise staying off the roads if possible and driving slowly and leaving plenty of room in between other vehicles if you must travel.
