A Jefferson City teenager has been charged in connection with a burglary at a Cole County gun shop earlier this week.
Christopher McCombs Jr., 17, is charged with one count of felony second-degree burglary for allegedly breaking into Bob's Guns on Lomo Drive in St. Martins early Wednesday morning.
When deputies arrived at the shop, they found the locks on the front door of the business had been cut, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement. Inside, they found several glass display cases had been broken and an unknown amount of merchandise had been stolen.
Deputies reviewed security camera video from the business and reportedly saw two Black men wearing surgical face masks. One of the men was seen using a concrete saw to cut through the door's locks.
About an hour after getting the call for the gun shop burglary, deputies were called to Everyday Convenience on West Business 50, about 2 miles from the gun shop. The call was for a vehicle blocking the pumps at the convenience store. Deputies found McCombs and another person in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle told deputies the vehicle belonged to his girlfriend; he took possession of the vehicle and left the area.
After reviewing footage from a deputy's body camera and security video from the gas station, authorities said it appeared McCombs and the other individual matched the description of the suspects from the gun shop burglary. The gas station clerk told authorities they had seen one of the individuals in the car had blood on the front of his pants.
Authorities returned to the gun shop and canvassed a wooded area behind the business and reportedly found a concrete saw, a bag containing some stolen knives, a surgical mask and pants that had blood stains on them. Also located near these items were several areas of blood on the ground.
As the scene at the gun shop was being processed, deputies were told the vehicle McCombs and the other individual had been seen in was found in Holts Summit and the two had been taken into custody.
During an interview with investigators, McCombs allegedly admitted he and the other individual had committed the burglary at the gun shop.
