JC man charged with directing drug activity while in county jail

A Jefferson City man has been charged with directing drug activity while he was being held in the Cole County Jail.

Randdell Craig, 37, is charged with two counts of second- degree drug trafficking and one count of delivery of a controlled substance.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement states Craig was arrested Monday on outstanding warrants and charges related to drug trafficking.

On Monday and Tuesday, JCPD detectives monitored phone calls made by Craig as he was being held in the county jail where he allegedly used coded language pertaining to ongoing illegal drug activity. Through these phone calls, authorities said they learned Craig was using a female to gather illegal drugs hidden at Craig’s residence on North Ventura Avenue as well as in a vehicle parked outside the residence.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Craig’s vehicle and officers reportedly found a black computer bag containing approximately 240 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of heroin, 71 grams of Ecstasy tablets and 28 grams of marijuana.

Investigators talked with the woman who Craig called from the county jail and she allegedly admitted to gathering the drugs for Craig and hiding them in the trunk of the vehicle.
