Council for Drug Free Youth accepting donations for food drive

Jefferson City's Council for Drug Free Youth will host a Blessing Box food drive Saturday in memory of Kevin Kohler.

Kohler, who died of COVID-19 complications in December 2020, was a pastor at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Brazito and also served as the executive director of CDFY.

Nearly three years ago, Kohler created a "Blessing Box" to share food and other items with the needy in the community surrounding his church.

Contributors left dry food items or canned goods in the box. If anyone needed anything out of the box, they were welcome to it. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church youth placed small Bibles in the box.

During the (contactless) food drive, which will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m., nonperishable food may be dropped off at the church, 7804 Heritage Highway. Monetary donations may be mailed to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7804 Heritage Highway, Jefferson City, MO, 65109.

People who are not able to attend the food drive in person Saturday may drop off food items 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Friday at the CDFY office, 306 Jefferson St.
