Miller County collector remembered as kind, funny, loving

Miller County Collector William "Bill" Harvey died Sunday at 59.

Harvey received his appointment to the position 12 years ago, after his predecessor stepped down because of poor health.

Chief Deputy Collector Jody Vance is acting interim collector.

Harvey was a lifelong Eldon resident. His father was a banker in the Miller County town, and Harvey followed in his father's footsteps before he became county collector.

Harvey liked golf, his daughter, Allie Bailey, said. Bailey is the oldest of two children Harvey and his wife of 34 years, Sheri, had.

They celebrated their anniversary Nov. 7, Bailey said.

"He was very family oriented - funny. People described him as one of the kindest people they'd ever met," Bailey said. "He was a great dad. He was fun. He liked to kid around a lot."

However, he also attended all his children's functions.

The Harveys loved to travel, Bailey said. Bill and Sheri traveled internationally.

As a family, the Harveys loved to travel to America's coasts for the sun and the sand.

The only place Harvey didn't enjoy a beach was on the golf course. Harvey loved golf. He was a member for a very long time at the Eldon Country Club, Bailey said.

More recently, Harvey became a grandfather. He doted on Bailey's 3-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son.
