Mokane's 71-year-old tradition returns this weekend at Lions Club Park.
The annual World's Fair includes bingo, carnival rides, clogging and more from 5 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Sunday.
"One of our claims to fame is the mutton sandwich, which is sheep," finance officer Bryan Rogers said. "They've always done them. So we do mutton and beef sandwiches, hamburger, hot dogs and homemade pies."
The excitement begins at 5 p.m. Friday with entertainment from DJ McGrath and the opening of the beer garden, followed by bingo, softball and a demolition derby at 7 p.m. Derby categories feature modified, compact and "gut n' go." The evening will end with a performance by the band "Those Guys" at 8 p.m.
Saturday starts off at 11 a.m. with a parade, followed by a performance by the South Callaway band, another softball game and carnival rides at from 1-10 p.m. Wristbands are $25 each day.
Saturday evening's highlights include a clogging performance at 6:30 p.m. and a Missouri Farm Pullers and Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. Saturday will end with a performance by Alter-K-Shon from 8 p.m.-midmight.
The fair opens at noon Sunday with the beer garden followed by a 2 p.m. performance by the Flat Footin' Follies, a fiddlers contest at 3 p.m. and an antique truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m.
"For a lot of folks who have moved away," Rogers said. "They know to come this weekend because it's always been the same weekend every year, and they'll see folks they haven't seen in years."
The Mokane World's Fair is the primary fundraiser for the Mokane Lions Club. The club uses the money raised by the festival for a number of projects at the international, state and community level. On the home front, they donate money to the South Callaway band, help individuals whom are having a hard time or even just the community in general.
"It was a big debate this year, whether we we're going to have it, but we're having it," Rogers said.
