A Jefferson City man has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender after a traffic stop last week in Moniteau County.

According to Moniteau County Sheriff's Department reports, deputies received information July 28 that Randy Tucker, 36, would be in the California area and that Tucker had an active felony warrant for his arrest. Deputies located Tucker while he was driving on North Oak Street in California and pulled him over. Deputies then confirmed Tucker had an active felony warrant out of Moniteau County for failure to register as a sex offender and took him into custody at the scene.

Deputies then conducted a tow inventory of Tucker's vehicle and during that process Tucker allegedly admitted he had a handgun in the vehicle.

Deputies located the gun and Tucker was later charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
