The Jefferson City Council approved several projects at Monday's meeting.

It approved a $125,710 construction contract with Donelson Construction Co. LLC for micro-surfacing.

This is part of the city's annual streets project. Micro-surfacing adds a layer over existing streets to prolong the road's lifespan.

The other parts of the project were approved at previous council meetings.

Those are milling and overlay, where crews break up streets to relay pavement.

The city will also be sealing roads, adding a sealant over recently laid streets to prolong the road's lifespan.

The City Council suspended rules to vote on the project Monday night rather than at the Aug. 16 meeting.

Britt Smith, operations division director for Public Works, requested the rush to take advantage of the summer weather.

Smith said warmer weather makes the extra layer dry faster.

The project will micro-surface 3.21 miles of streets, with work mostly to be done on 0.69 of road in Ward 4 and 2.24 miles in Ward 5.
