Jefferson City woman arrested in Columbia arson probe

Columbia police arrested a Jefferson City woman for her alleged involvement in a disturbance and residential fire early Monday morning that took place in the 1000 block of Claudell Lane.

According to Columbia Police Department reports, Alruekia Brown-Wells, 30, was arrested for first-degree arson, endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree assault.

At 3:20 a.m., Columbia police responded to a report of a disturbance at Columbia Square Apartments, located in the 1000 block of Claudell Lane.

Upon arrival, officers located Brown-Wells and, through further investigation, discovered she allegedly had also been involved in setting a fire outside of a residence.

The Columbia Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Columbia police added their investigation is ongoing and more information may become available later.
