Callaway court employee tests positive for COVID-19

Courthouse amending cases schedules

Due to a positive COVID-19 test of a court employee, the Callaway County Circuit Court will be reducing the number of people coming into the courthouse in Fulton.

According to a news release sent out Thursday afternoon from Court Administrator Mary Epping, court officials have been in communication with the individual.

"We have taken immediate action and ensured anyone with close contact with this person was notified to quarantine at home effective immediately, and all areas in which the individual worked have been deep cleaned," Epping wrote.

Epping said, for the time being, they will be limiting the number of people who can be in a courtroom at one time and/or moving cases to a later date.

"It should be noted this change in phases is limited to the court," Epping wrote. "The courthouse as a whole will continue to function as normal."

Cases set for today and the next two weeks that were supposed to be done in person may now only be done by video or postponed to a later date.

Individuals with cases in Callaway County are encouraged to contact their attorney or, if they are representing themselves, to fill out a form and send it to the court so they may receive an invite for a video docket. The form can be found at courts.mo.gov/hosted/circuit13/documents/VideoAppearanceRequest.pdf.

If individuals come to the court and their case is to be by video or has been continued, they will be given guidance on what to do, Epping said.
