Workshop teaches the basics of beef artificial insemination

The University of Missouri Extension in Callaway County and Lincoln University's Busby Farm will host a beef artificial insemination school next month.

The school is scheduled 12:30-8 p.m. Oct. 9 and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10. It will be at the Lincoln University's Alan T. Busby Farm, 5124 Goller Road in Jefferson City.

The school is intended to introduce participants to the method of artificial insemination through presentations and hands on experiences, according to a news release. Topics to be covered include basic reproductive anatomy, the estrous cycle, semen and equipment handling, insemination techniques and synchronization protocols. Hands-on demonstrations include palpation, identification of reproductive tract, and insemination techniques.

Class space is limited, but at least six participants must register for the class to occur. Included in the $300 registration fee are materials, dinner Friday and lunch Saturday.
