For the first time in several years, the annual Labor Day Parade in Jefferson City will not be held due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The parade normally happens the Saturday after Labor Day, which would be this coming Saturday.

The Jefferson City Central Labor Union, which organizes the parade, does not plan to reschedule it this year.

"Labor had taken a strong stance on protections during the pandemic, and we didn't feel it was ethical for us to have an event with that many people that close together so we chose not to have it," said Aaron Gray, president of the Jefferson City Central Labor Union.

"The big parade is held every year on Labor Day in St. Louis, but they didn't hold it this year," Gray continued. "Hopefully we'll be through all this COVID mess by next year and have a big celebration."
