Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School in Marys Home recently received a grant from the Miller County Health Department to purchase new playground equipment.

Principal Jacob Akin said the community is thankful to receive this $17,000 grant.

"We are very blessed and very lucky to get that grant from the Miller County Health Department," Akin said. "It's just great for the community and what we'll need to bring our community together with activity and just promoting good health overall."

A few families in the Our Lady of the Snows parish volunteered to help put up the equipment, and they finished it in about three days. The new equipment is made of metal, so it's much longer-lasting than the old equipment, Akin said.

"The other one was wood, and therefore it's going to be so much better because we don't have to worry about rotting or old wood becoming frail and breakable," he said.

Akin expects the playground to be ready for use by next week after finishing touches are made to follow safety restrictions for ADA requirements.

Akin thanked the Miller County Health Department for the grant.

"Our Lady of the Snows parish is very blessed to have them as support for our communities around the area," he said.
