Eugene school board closes meeting to visitors

The Cole R-5 School District Board of Education at Eugene is closing its Wednesday night meeting to the public.

Instead, the meeting will be streamed live online on the district's Facebook page, beginning at 5:30 p.m. No outside visitors will be allowed to attend in person.

In a message posted on the school's website and delivered by text to school patrons Wednesday morning, the school announced its decision to close the meeting due to the COVID-19 quarantine for grades 7-12.

Students in those grades switched to virtual learning Monday due to a staffing shortage and school officials' concerns about potential coronavirus spread. As of Tuesday, the district website reported one positive case in the junior and senior high with no cases reported in the elementary nor among staff.

The district plans for these students to return to in-person classes Nov. 9, but it may be later if warranted.
