State Museum to host new program

The Missouri State Museum will host a program highlighting the Don Carlos archaeology project as part of its ongoing Landing After Hours series at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.

Generations of the Don Carlos family have influenced the social and political landscapes of Cooper and Moniteau counties, according to a news release from the museum. The legacy continues through fraternal organizations and the Prairie Home Fair.

Christine Boston will highlight what the archaeological research and record says about the family. This presentation will draw upon the research of Lincoln University students who have been involved in the project over the past three years.

The Missouri State Museum's Landing After Hours events are the first Wednesday of each month in the Lohman Building at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site in Jefferson City. Doors to the historic site open at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. Participants may arrive early and enter the doors on the railroad track side to explore the historic site before the program. The program will be held in the first-floor classroom, accessible from the south entrance door. Parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.

The public is encouraged to follow social-distancing guidelines and be proactive in protecting themselves and others amid ongoing public health concerns. Those planning to attend should come prepared with hand sanitizer and bottled water. Face coverings are encouraged.

Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is located at 100 Jefferson St.
