The Maries County R-1 School District in Vienna switched to virtual learning today due to a large increase in positive COVID-19 cases.

The district plans to return to seated classes the week of Nov. 2 and will re-evaluate next week.

The county health department recommended the schools remained closed through next week, according to the district's website.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience that this causes our families and community, but it was necessary to get a handle on the health and safety of our students and staff," the website states.

To pick up meals for students during the closure, call Amy Rowden ahead of time at 573-422-3240.
