A Jefferson City man has pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in October 2018.

Kin Patterson, 23, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Judge Jon Beetem to felony first-degree involuntary manslaughter along with misdemeanors charges of operating a vehicle in a careless manner, failure to yield the right-of-way, driving without a valid license and possession of a controlled substance.

Patterson entered a "blind plea," which means there is no plea agreement with prosecutors.

Sedalia resident Michael D. Poindexter, 49, died in the two-vehicle wreck that occurred Oct. 20, 2018, in Cole County.

A Missouri Highway Patrol report states Patterson was driving south on U.S. 50 West at Lookout Trail when he attempted to cross the highway and pulled into the path of a motorcycle driven by Poindexter.

Poindexter's motorcycle struck Patterson's vehicle, causing Poindexter to be ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Beetem ordered a pre-sentence assessment report to be done by the Office of Probation and Parole before sentencing, which is scheduled to take place in December.
