A Jefferson City man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with breaking into storage units in June 2018.

Larry Evers, 46, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce to a felony charge of second-degree burglary and three misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree property damage.

Along with probation, Joyce ordered Evers to serve 30 days in the Cole County Jail.

If he is found to have violated his probation, Evers would face seven years in prison.

Evers was seen between storage units at A+ Storage on East McCarty Street carrying a bolt cutter, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. He was told to move along by a witness. The witness then heard moving in the storage unit behind his and saw Evers inside.

The witness locked the unit with Evers inside. Evers then kicked the door of the unit, damaging it to where he could get out and flee the area. The witness gave authorities the registration for the vehicle Evers was driving.

Evers was located a short time later driving the same vehicle the witness described. The vehicle had no taillights, so authorities pulled Evers over. They searched the vehicle and found a cut padlock inside along with a digital scale, which had residue of methamphetamine on it. Authorities also found a set of bolt cutters on the roadside in the path Evers drove away from the scene.
