The Christmas trees to be displayed at the Missouri Governor's Mansion this year are scheduled to arrive 7-8 a.m. Monday, and a portion of Madison Street in Jefferson City will be closed temporarily that morning.
The 40-foot Norway spruce that will be displayed on the Governor's Mansion lawn was donated by Doris Baker, of Desloge, after she decided the tree had become too large for her yard, according to Gov. Mike Parson's office.
The 17-foot Norway spruce and 10-foot white pine that will be displayed inside the mansion are from Pea Ridge Forest in Hermann.
The indoor trees will be installed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the state Office of Administration will install the tree on the lawn.
Madison Street between East State Street and East Capitol Avenue will be closed at 6 a.m. Monday to allow for installation of the trees and will reopen by 9:30 a.m., according to the Jefferson City Department of Public Works. Additional information from Public Works is available by calling 573-634-6410.
The annual lighting of the tree will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 4, followed by this year's Candlelight Tours, which will run until 8 p.m. that Friday and again 6-8 p.m. Dec. 7-9.
This year's tours will be by reservation only because of COVID-19, and more information is expected to be provided next week.
