The Moniteau County Health Center reported the county's 15th death due to the coronavirus Monday evening.
The individual was in their 70s, and marks the third COVID-19 death in the county this month. Per the Health Center's usual policy, no further information about the deceased individual will be released.
As of 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, there are 166 active cases of COVID-19 in Moniteau County, eight of which are currently hospitalized. To date, the county has seen 1,195 total cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic.
Over the past few days, the active case count in Moniteau County has started to diminish. Before the weekend, active cases peaked at 243 before declining toward the current figure.
Despite the short period of decline, active cases on any given day haven't numbered below 100 since Oct. 26 and more than 200 new cases were added to the tally last week alone.
The Health Center urged everyone to take actions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including avoiding close contact with people who are sick; avoiding touching one's eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; washing hands with soap and water regularly; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces regularly; staying home if one feels sick; and adhering to proper social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others and wearing a facial covering when engaging in tasks away from home.
