Five injured in two Saturday accidents

Five people were hurt Saturday in two separate accidents.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported David B. Faulkner, 27, of Iberia, was driving eastbound at 3 p.m. on U.S. 54 at Brown Road in Cole County when he fell asleep and traveled off the left side of the road. He then over-corrected and the vehicle overturned off the right side of the road and caught fire.

Faulkner, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment on the scene, the patrol said. Dedra A. George, 25, of Iberia, who was in the car and wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

At 10:45 a.m., a woman from Fulton and two juveniles were injured in a car crash in Moniteau County.

Roberta L. Humphrey, 63, was driving westbound on Missouri 87 at Route C when she failed to yield to a vehicle and was struck broadside.

Connie H. Hibdon, 71, from California, struck Humphrey's vehicle traveling southbound on Missouri 87 at Route C. Hibdon was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to the report.

Humphrey sustained minor injuries. A 12-year-old in Humphrey's sustained minor injuries, and a 14-year-old sustained serious injuries. They were all wearing seat belts and were taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia, the patrol said.
