1 arrested after standoff with authorities

One person was arrested Tuesday after a standoff with authorities in Miller County.

Deputies responded to a report of gunshots fired and a possible hostage situation on Foote Lane, according to a Miller County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Witnesses told deputies an altercation had taken place and a woman had been pulled into a vehicle against her will by a man later identified as Roy Derescky.

Derescky allegedly fired a shot from a firearm and left the scene.

Deputies later located Derescky and the woman at a residence on Adams Road. The woman came out of the residence, but Derescky stayed inside. Deputies tried to get Derescky to come out, but he did not.

Eventually a SWAT team from the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Troop F was called to get Derescky to come out peacefully, which he did after several hours of negotiations.

Deputies searched the residence and allegedly found a firearm and methamphetmine.
