A St. Louis man has been charged with a weapons offense that reportedly occurred early Monday morning in Jefferson City.

Tyler Scott, 20, is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

A man told officers he was in the 800 block of Stadium Boulevard at 12:06 a.m. Monday and Scott reportedly came to the same location a few minutes later, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The man said there had been an earlier confrontation between him and Scott and he was fearful for his life.

The man reported the earlier confrontation had occurred Sunday and that Scott had assaulted him by hitting him in the face with a firearm.

After seeing Scott early Monday morning, the man said, he called his family to pick him up on Stadium Boulevard.

Officers were called to the scene just after 12:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired in the area.

Officers later examined security camera footage from the area and allegedly saw Scott "shooting several times at the victim as he was going towards his family's vehicle." Officers said the man did not make any advancement toward Scott prior to the shooting.

Authorities said the victim's mother had a firearm in her vehicle and shot back at Scott. Officers reported finding seven 10mm shell casings where Scott was standing during the shooting and two 45-caliber shell casings where the victim's mother was parked at the time.

The victim and his family drove to the Police Department on Monroe Street and officers found the driver's side door of the vehicle had been damaged by a bullet.

Scott was arrested Monday afternoon during a vehicle stop and reportedly was sitting on top of a Glock 10mm handgun.

When confronted with the security video, Scott allegedly admitted to shooting toward the victim and his family, but claimed he had been shot at first.
