UPDATE: Woman rescued from burning home in critical condition

The Jefferson City Fire Department continues its investigation of a house fire on Dunford Street Monday evening with the assistance of city police and the state fire marshal.  

Meanwhile, the woman who was rescued from inside the home remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to the fire department.  

The origin of the fire appears to have been in the living room area near or on furniture in the room, the department reported. The rescued occupant was found unresponsive in a bedroom.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of a Monday night house fire in Jefferson City.

According to fire department reports, fire crews were dispatched at 7:25 p.m. for a house on fire in the 200 block of Dunford Street. The first arriving units found heavy smoke coming from all sides of the home and heavy fire coming from the front of the structure.

A witness reported the house was potentially occupied and the location of the occupants was unknown. Firefighters began to fight the fire and conduct search and rescue efforts.

Eventually they found an unresponsive woman in the home. She was taken out, resuscitation efforts were given and she was later transported to a local hospital by Cole County Emergency Medical Services.
