Jefferson City farmers markets back in business

After a late start to their regular seasons, Jefferson City farmers markets are beginning to open.

The Lincoln University Farmers Market has been offering a drive-thru farmers market for a few weeks now. Each Saturday from 10-11 a.m., customers can drive by to pick up orders at 900 Leslie Blvd.

Market manager Taylor Cleveland said they will have fresh fish, eggs, chicken, beef, greens, baked goods, jams and nut butters available.

A list of products is available via the Lincoln University Farmers Market Facebook page each week, and customers order via email. Customers can also subscribe to receive the list in their email each week.

Delivery is available for $5. Orders for each Saturday need to be placed by the preceding Wednesday at noon.

Questions and orders can be sent to [email protected].

Once customers place their order, they will see how much money they owe to each vendor. When they arrive to pick up their orders, they will stop at the vendors they ordered from.

The Cole County Farmers Market will return Friday to the Capital Mall parking lot at 3600 Country Club Drive.

The market usually opens in mid-April, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers postponed the opening date.

The market will be open from 4-6 p.m. Friday, selling planters and hanging baskets, potted plants, vegetable plants, herbs, lettuce, radishes and baked goods, according to the Cole County Farmers Market Facebook page.

Visitors should maintain a distance of 6 feet apart, and hand sanitizer will be available at vendor booths.

Going forward, the market will be open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and from 2-4 p.m. Saturdays.

Capital City Farmers Market, which is held in the Orschlen Farm & Home parking lot at 2304 Missouri Blvd., plans to reopen either the last Saturday in May or the first Saturday in June.

Once open, the market will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Capital City Farmers Market is looking for new vendors. Area residents who grow produce, bake items or make products they would like to sell can contact the market via Facebook or by email at [email protected].
