A Jefferson City man faces multiple charges in connection with an alleged attempted kidnapping early Saturday morning.

Marcus Munzo, 31, is charged with first-degree attempted kidnapping, armed criminal action, stealing, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Officers were called to a report of shots fired at 12:25 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of East McCarty Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. A victim told officers a man, who was later reported to be Munzo, threatened him with a gun.

The victim later called police, claiming Munzo pointed the gun at his chest, grabbed him and said something to the effect of, "Come over here to the bushes; let me talk to you."

During their investigation, officers went to a report of a theft in the 400 block of Locust Street. They found a handgun had been stolen out of a vehicle and the victim believed it was Munzo who had stolen it.

Officers returned at 2:24 a.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of East McCarty for a report of a disturbance. Officers heard someone exit the back door of an apartment building in the area and run into a wooded area between the apartment building and Handley Way.

As they searched the area, officers allegedly saw Munzo coming out of the area of the 400 block of Clark Avenue. They eventually took him into custody and reportedly found Munzo was hiding the handgun that had been reported stolen from the car on Locust Street along with a backpack which Munzo allegedly claimed was his. Inside the backpack, officers reportedly found marijuana, two marijuana pipes, two pellet guns, two knives, a bandana, gloves and binoculars.

When questioned, Munzo denied being in possession of a firearm or using it to commit crimes.
