Man arrested after pursuit sentenced to 4 years

A man arrested after a pursuit with Jefferson City police in May has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Kenneth Manion, 41, of Independence, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Judge Jon Beetem to possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

His sentence will run concurrent with existing time in the Missouri Department of Corrections, and he was given credit for time already served.

In the May incident, an officer attempted to stop an unlicensed motor vehicle near the intersection of Stadium and Missouri boulevards, according to police reports.

Manion failed to yield, and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.

Manion, traveling east on Missouri Boulevard, struck a pickup truck, forcing the truck forward to strike a third vehicle in traffic.

Manion suffered injuries in the collision and was taken into custody then transported from the scene for treatment.

Neither of the other two drivers suffered injuries.

Traffic on Missouri Boulevard was redirected for approximately 30 minutes to allow emergency personnel to clear the scene.
