A third positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Cole County.

Cole County Health Director Kristi Campbell said Friday afternoon this person contracted the virus through domestic travel.

The Cole County Health Department is working to ensure the person is following Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and Centers for Disease Control guidelines in regards to isolation, Campbell said. They are also working to identify close contacts in order to monitor them for symptoms and contain spread, she said.

Earlier Friday, the Missouri Office of Administration confirmed in an email that a person who was in the Harry S. Truman State Office Building in Jefferson City tested positive for COVID-19. This person was last in suite 720 of the Truman Building on March 13, OA Commissioner Sarah Steelman said in the email. OA has closed the suite for cleaning and disinfection, and all those assigned to it suite will are working remotely or on leave.

OA officials would not confirm this was a state employee.

Campbell said Friday that the people with the first two positive cases reported in Cole County earlier this week are "doing well."

"We keep in contact with them every day, and they are both self-quarantining at their homes," Campbell said. "We gave them written orders that they were to quarantine themselves after they were found to have come back with a positive test."

In both cases, these individuals contracted the virus through previous travel.

As more cases are reported, Campbell said, the county Health Department will update the total number of COVID-19 reported cases at colehealth.org by noon each day.

Campbell said residents with questions should consult a "factual source," such as health.mo.gov/coronavirus or CDC.gov. Residents can also call the DHSS 24-hour hotline at 877-435-8411 or CCHD at 573-636-2181.
