HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - For the next 30 days, the city will not disconnect any utilities nor assess any penalties for utilities.

A news release updating residents on plans to address COVID-19, a contagious illness caused by a strain of coronavirus, cited the importance of hand washing and keeping surfaces clean as the reasoning behind the decision.

.

"Obviously there have been no reported cases in Callaway County, but we just want to do everything in our power to keep everyone safe," City Administrator Hanna Lechner said.

The city has also limited the hours City Hall and the police department will be open. Instead of 8 a.m.-5 p.m., the municipal center lobby will only be open 11 a.m.-1 p.m., though residents can still use the drive-through at any time during normal working hours.

Following the Sunday announcement made by Gov. Mike Parson encouraging the cancellation or suspension of public events, the city also asked the public to avoid any event with 50 or more people. The annual Easter egg hunt has been postponed until April 18; all park and civic center rentals have been canceled until April 13.

The Holts Summit Board of Alderman's monthly meeting is still scheduled to occur as planned at 6 p.m. today, though Lechner said seating arrangements may be rearranged to create more space between attendees.

This month's agenda includes several proclamations, including one recognizing Ward 2 Alderman Thomas Durham for his "conscientious and dedicated service" to the city. He was first elected alderman in 2009 - before that he served on the sewer commission and the planning and zoning commission.
