Four Blair Oaks students created the four posters touting a drug-free lifestyle recently chosen as winning entries in the Jefferson City Optimist Club's Substance Abuse Poster Contest.
From approximately 80 entries submitted by students from area schools, judges selected one boy and one girl in each of two levels, grades K-4 and grades 5-8, as the winners. The contest offered an opportunity for the participants to express their views on various components of the "Just Say No" pledge using their creativity and imaginations.
Posters by Auery Trinklein and Cooper Maschier, both third-graders at Blair Oaks Elementary School, and Sophia Warner and Zach Moreland, both seventh-graders at Blair Oaks Middle School, were chosen as the winning entries.
The posters by Trinklein and Moreland emphasized helping friends say no to drugs. Maschler's art compared saying no to sunshine and good weather. Warner's poster depicted a student thinking about how to fulfill a pledge to live a drug-free life.
Club members presented each winner with a certificate and gift card Feb. 21 during assemblies at the two schools.
