Dee Dee Mehmert-Cryderman, who is part of the post's renovation committee, said the previous mural was completed by high school students.

"The mural will replace the one we have on the south side of the building," Mehmert-Cryderman said. "We had to do some tuck pointing as part of the renovation work and that affected the mural, so it's time to update it."

Mehmert-Cryderman said they have an idea for what they want to be included in the mural.

"We're going to have the American flag waving and the Pledge of Allegiance printed out in old style script," Mehmert-Cryderman said.

The American Legion post is renovating half of the building with this project, Mehmert-Cryderman said. Areas being upgraded include the bar and meeting area, and the outside deck is being expanded.

The building is more than 30 years old. Eventually the post will have to update the rest of the structure, but they don't have the funds right now, Mehmert-Cryderman said.

Anyone interested in the mural project should email Capital Arts at [email protected] or call Mehmert-Cryderman at 573-680-1002.
