2 arrested for drugs during traffic stop

Two people were arrested Friday for illegal drugs after a traffic stop in Moniteau County.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 50 and Old U.S. 50 for a lane and equipment violation, according to Moniteau County Sheriff's Department reports.

The driver, Dean Phebus, 19, of Nevada, and his passenger, Christopher Pickens 28, of Butler, denied a request by deputies to search their vehicle, so K-9 Apollo was dispatched to the scene. The K-9 reportedly gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Deputies then searched the vehicle and allegedly located methamphetamine, scales and what was believed to be counterfeit currency.
