Cole County reports second COVID-19 death

Cole County reported its second COVID-19-related death Monday.

The Cole County Health Department was notified of the death by the state at 12:40 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the department.

Health Department Director Kristi Campbell said the person had "several other underlying health conditions."

"Out of respect for privacy, we will not be releasing any further information regarding this patient," Campbell said.

Cole County's first death related to COVID-19 was reported in early April.

The county has reported 61 total positive COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, with four active as of Monday. Fifty-five patients in the county have recovered from the virus.

free community COVID-19 testing event will be held July 7-9 in Cole County to help determine the number of people who have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections - people who don't feel sick or have not yet gotten sick but are nonetheless carrying and potentially unknowingly spreading the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
