JCHS' Marcullus court announced

Jefferson City High School's student body elected five students to the traditional Marcullus court: Sakkyra King, Natalie Rose Harman, Elizabeth (Betsy) Hall Morello, Ryann Schenewerk and Abigail Zimmerman.

The Jefferson City School District canceled prom on Friday due to COVID-19.

Before prom was canceled, Queen Sakkyra King was crowned on her front porch after alumni group Jay Pride Alive conducted interviews via video-chat to determine the queen.

Sakkyra King is the daughter of Marquess and Contessa King. Her high school activities include four years of student council, Lady Jays Basketball, track and DECA. She received the Student of the Month award for Rotary West Club. She will attend the University of Kansas School of Engineering to major in computer science.

Natalie Harman is the daughter of Rosalind and Kevin Harman. She is a four-year member of the JCHS dance team, serving as captain her senior year. She was also a two-year member of Key Club. She was on the honor roll all four years of high school. She plans to major in pre-law with an emphasis in paralegal studies.

Betsy Morello is the daughter of Cathlin and Patrick Morello. She has been in student council since sixth grade, serving as student body secretary her senior year as well as being a varsity cheerleader for three years. She received the Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship Award from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the American Legion Award and the Mary Lee Wyss Award, among others. She will attend Baylor University to major in economics.

Ryann Schenewerk is the daughter of Kelly and Stephanie Schenewerk. Her high school activities include two years of golf, four years of track and field, and four years of student council. She served as a captain in golf and track and field in 2019 and received the Most Improved Athlete award in track and field. She will attend the University of Missouri and major in health sciences.

Abigail Zimmerman is the daughter of Helen Jaco and Mark Zimmerman. Her high school activities include track and field, wrestling and Lady Nightmare Rugby. She will attend State Fair Community College and is currently undecided on her major.
