Cole County Commission votes to replace health department roof

The Cole County Commission voted Tuesday to replace the roof at the county health department, which was severely damaged in the March 27 hail storm.

Commissioners approved a contract with Missouri Builders Service to replace the roof of the building on West Truman Boulevard for $198,807.

Work on the project is scheduled to start July 20 and is to be completed no later than 60 days from the start date.

Meanwhile, the county is waiting to move forward with roof repairs at the Cole County Sheriff's Department. The commission has selected Weathercraft Inc. to do the work, but there has been disagreement with the county's insurance provider, Travelers Insurance, over the costs of the repairs.

Weathercraft officials have told the commission they could delay the start of the project to Aug. 1 if needed but would need to start ordering materials in July. That leaves the commission with a couple of weeks to work out an agreement with Travelers Insurance. If they can't, it's possible the matter could have to be solved through litigation.

Damage to the roof occurred during the May 2019 tornado and has been exacerbated by other weather-related issues since then.
