MILLERSBURG, MO. - The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is conducting a homicide investigation after a body was found Thursday near the Boone County line west of Millersburg.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Ervin Hayes, of Columbia.
The investigation began at 12:44 p.m. when deputies responded to reports of a body found along County Road 351 near County Road 350 and state Road WW.
"A county resident came across the body on the side of the county roadway and immediately called CCSO," Sheriff Clay Chism said in an email.
It is being treated as a homicide based on findings at the scene.
Investigators are assessing approximately 50 leads, according to a press release.
The sheriff's office is being assisted by the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Columbia Police Department, Fulton Police Department and the Division of Drug and Crime Control of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
