A Jefferson City man was hurt Saturday afternoon in a Cole County collision.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Stanley L. Claxton, 37, received moderate injuries in the 3:13 p.m. crash on westbound U.S. 54 just west of Shepherd Hills Road. He was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia.

The patrol stated Claxton was the driver of a westbound mail delivery truck on the divided highway when it was struck in the rear by a westbound car driven by Byron E. Neighbors, 42, of Columbia. That caused the mail truck to slide off the left side of the roadway into the median. Both drivers had been wearing their seat belts.

Also on Saturday, a 38-year-old man from Bland received moderate injuries in a Gasconade County wreck.

The patrol reports Corey J. Vitt, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Washington following the 2:25 p.m. crash on Route V east of Tappmeyer Road. He was driving eastbound when his car went off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
