Grand jury indicts man charged after chase with Jefferson City police

The Cole County Grand Jury recently handed down several indictments, finding there was enough evidence to send cases to the circuit courts for possible trial.

Among those indicted was a Holts Summit man charged in connection with a January 2019 chase with Jefferson City police.

Erik Case, 45, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

Officers allegedly saw Case on Jan. 3 leaving the Walmart on West Stadium Boulevard at a high speed, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. When they saw him commit a red-light violation on Missouri Boulevard, they attempted to pull him over. Case did not stop for the officers, and the pursuit began.

Case eventually made his way onto Missouri 179 traveling at speeds as high as 115 mph before crashing at the intersection of Missouri 179 and Route C.

Case fled on foot but was eventually taken into custody.

Officers reportedly found a loaded .357 Magnum revolver near the car Case had been driving. Under the driver's seat, they allegedly found a bag of pills identified as morphine along with a semi-automatic handgun magazine with .45-caliber ammunition.
