A Jefferson City teenager has been charged with resisting arrest following an incident Friday afternoon.

Jaquan Whirley, 17, is also charged with felony and misdemeanor receiving stolen property, possession of a defaced firearm and failure to display license plates.

Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of East McCarty Street on a vehicle Whirley was riding in, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The license plate on the vehicle was found to be stolen, and officers removed Whirley and others from the vehicle and frisked them.

While patting Whirley down, an officer reportedly found Whirley had a handbag on the inside of his shirt. The officer believed Whirley was carrying a firearm in the bag.

When the officer went to remove the bag from Whirley, Whirley began to pull away and run from the officer. The officer was able to take Whirley to the ground and secure the weapon that was in the bag.

The firearm was found to have been stolen from Boone County. Whirley allegedly admitted to buying the weapon for $50 from a man he didn't know.
