Jefferson City man charged with stealing thousands of dollars in tools at Riverside Park

A Jefferson City man has been charged with felony stealing for allegedly taking thousands of dollars' worth of tools from a construction area at the Riverside Park Amphitheater.

Byron Jones, 55, is believed to have committed this crime Nov. 14, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Authorities claim Jones opened a gate and drove inside the construction area and, while inside, cut a padlock on a Mueller Landscaping enclosed trailer and stole $6,310 in power tools.

On the same day, a citizen called police saying there was a truck stuck in the mud near the construction site. An officer found Jones, who said the truck belonged to him. Jones said his dog had gotten away from him, and he was driving on the sidewalk looking for it because he doesn't walk well.

Two days later, the tools were reported stolen. Footage from a parks security camera reportedly shows Jones inside the construction area stealing from the trailer.
