MOKANE, Mo. -- Mokane has received almost $50,000 from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency in reimbursements for work the city has done recently on sewer lift stations.

"The money is trickling in," Mayor Jo Belmont said during a Monday meeting of the Mokane Board of Aldermen.

Currently, the city is working on a series of projects related to water and wastewater, some related to damage from the flooding of 2019 and others related to efforts to update and modernize both systems.

"Things are looking a lot better than they did a month ago," Mayor Pro-Tem Chad Booher said.

To complete this work, the city has applied for government grants and loans.

For the flooding-related projects, Mokane has been working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and expect to hear soon about the next steps and which projects the agency will approve.

The board also approved bills during Monday's meeting.

During the board's next meeting, scheduled Jan. 4, it will hear more about grass, grease traps, a new calendar program, and other potential grant and loan programs that could help with water and sidewalk projects.
