As students return to on-campus housing at Lincoln University and State Technical College of Missouri, officials said extra precautions are being taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Check-in for returning residential students at Lincoln started Wednesday, LU spokeswoman Misty Young said.

Young said students have scheduled times for check-in based on the building and floor where they live.

Masks are required for each student, and a maximum of two people is allowed to assist each student in moving.

"To cut down on crowding in the Office of Residential Life or in the front desk areas of the residence halls, students must first check in at Jason Gym, where registration is taking place," Young said. "This one-stop 'bullpen style' setup for all registration needs, including housing, has greatly helped us in promoting social distancing during this time when we are welcoming students back to campus."

Lincoln University also announced Thursday that all 2020 Homecoming activities have been canceled "in response to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 cases around the nation and the need to social distance, as well as the MIAA's suspension of fall sports."

LU plans to begin classes Monday. Wearing masks or face coverings on campus and at all satellite facilities is mandatory.

State Tech spokesman Brandon McElwain said move-in day for students there is Saturday.

Normally move-in is a much more open process, McElwain said, but this year students have been allotted times for moving in based on which residential cottage they live in.

He said staff will not help with move-in - just whomever students bring along.

State Tech is requiring everyone indoors on campus to wear masks or face coverings.

Classes there are also scheduled to begin Monday.
