JC man placed on supervised probation

A Jefferson City man has been placed on five years supervised probation in a molestation case from 2016.

Jackie Mayfield, 41, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce to two counts of first-degree child molestation.

As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Mayfield faces the possibility of a 10-year prison sentence if he violates his probation.

Court records show the crimes occurred between May and September 2016.

The sexual assaults were against two girls younger than 14, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement. Both girls told investigators Mayfield had touched them inappropriately.

Initially Mayfield denied the allegations, but he returned to the Sheriff's Department after talking with a neighbor. Mayfield then confessed to committing acts with one of the girls while the parents were gone and he was watching the girls.
