Suspect sought in Jefferson City shooting

Jefferson City police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that occurred Wednesday night.

Officers were called at approximately 10:03 p.m. to the 800 block of Monroe Street for reports of shots fired in the area, according to police reports.

Officers arrived to find a 36-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound in an apartment.

The initial investigation indicated the shooting had occurred outside the apartment, near a vehicle, and the victim was able to make his way inside.

The victim provided a description and direction of travel of his assailant. Officers created a perimeter and began a search of the apartment buildings in the complex but were unable to find the suspect.

The victim was transported to a local hospital then to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
