For those looking to stay clean and safe, Fulton Medical Center is distributing disinfectant.

FMC began producing disinfectant solution earlier this year when it installed a $35,000 Danolyte Global system. The system makes more disinfectant than the hospital needs - even with increased cleanings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"We still have a lot left over, and we thought it would be great if we could help first responders," said Don Peterson, of Noble Health Corporation, which took over management of FMC in December.

As the pandemic spread across Missouri, the center began reaching out to local first responders. FMC has shared disinfectant with the Fulton Police Department, the Fulton Fire Department, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office and the Columbia Police Department.

"We thought, 'Well, we still have leftover, let's make it available for the community,'" Peterson said.

FMC invites anyone living in the Callaway County area to pick up free disinfectant for their home or office.

A tent was set up Tuesday in the parking lot of Fulton Medical Clinic to distribute bottles of disinfectant. Anita McGrath and Rachel Mackey, who were manning the tent, said people trickled by throughout the day.

To pick up a bottle of disinfectant, stop by Fulton Medical Clinic. If no one is set up outside, anyone can step into the lobby to ask for a bottle. Because FMC has a limited supply of bottles, people are asked to bring their own opaque bottle or lidded container to fill.

"As long as we have enough, we're happy to share what we don't use," FMC CEO Don Buchanan said in a news release.
