The Jefferson City Board of Education held its first virtual board meeting Monday, where the members voted on officers and discussed renovations at Jefferson City High School.
The board elected Lori Massman as president, Scott Hovis as vice president, Ken Enloe as treasurer and Stephanie Sapperfield as secretary.
The board also elected Ken Enloe as a delegate on the Missouri School Board Association and new board member Brad Bates as the alternate.
At JCHS, the district's goal is to have some renovations done by May 17, Superintendent Larry Linthacum said, including a light-up sign that reads "JC" on the south side of the building, "JAYS" printed vertically on the northeast corner and "Jefferson City High School" painted in red on the north side of the building, brick veneer wainscoting on the wrestling building and "JC" printed in a concrete color on the grass on a hill, possibly lit up.
The board also approved softball/baseball field improvements at Capital City High School, including a maintenance storage shed, parking, sidewalks leading to the field, concrete around the field, two bullpens and a batting cage. The storage shed will store gas-powered equipment such as snow blowers and tractors.
The contractor is Verslues Construction Co. Inc. Phase 2 of the project will include renovations to make the field competition-ready, Linthacum said, but there is not yet a timeline for phase 2.
