Jefferson City High School Homecoming a 'Dream Come True'

Jefferson City High School celebrated Homecoming last week, with a theme of "JCHS: Where Dreams Come True."

Students participated in themed spirit days all week. Monday was "Inside Out Day," with students dressed in mismatched or crazy clothes. Tuesday was "Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Day," with students dressed as twins. Wednesday was "Wannabe Wednesday," with students dressed as their favorite Disney characters. Thursday was "Walk Around the Park," with students dressed like tacky tourists. Friday was "Best Jay Ever!" with students wearing red and black.

Ross Campbell was announced as Homecoming king during the powderpuff game Wednesday evening at Adkins Stadium.

Laurine Shoki was announced as Homecoming queen later Wednesday evening during the bonfire.

The Homecoming parade made its way through downtown Jefferson City on Thursday evening, followed by a pep rally at Carnahan Memorial Garden.

The Homecoming court was presented during an assembly Friday afternoon at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Homecoming football game against Chaminade College Preparatory School was Friday night at Adkins Stadium.

The Homecoming dance was Saturday night at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Laurine Tiffany Shoki is the daughter of Tasiana Malya and Godfrey Shoki.

Her high school activities include four years of Student Council, serving as the student body vice president this year, and the three years of HOSA, serving as co-president this year. Laurine has also earned a varsity letter on the Lady Jays basketball team. Laurine's awards include the Outstanding Youth Leadership award from the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, she was selected as a member of the National Honor Society, and she placed second with the Lady Jays varsity basketball team at the girls basketball MSHSAA championship.

She plans to attend St. Louis University as a pre-med student and to major in biology.

Taylor Madison Cook is the daughter of Kendra and Justin Cook.

Her high school activities include four years in varsity soccer, two years in varsity cheer, one year in volleyball, one year in Key Club and one year as a DECA member. She received the Scholar Athlete Award.

Taylor is considering attending the University of Mississippi or the University of Missouri to major in business.

Lauren Elizabeth Hackman is the daughter of Chris and Dawn Hackman.

Her high school activities include four years in varsity cheer, serving as captain for three years; National Honor Society for three years; and Key Club for two years. Her awards include four years as a scholar-athlete.

Lauren plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia to earn a bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis in graphic design.

Annabelle Marie Maassen is the daughter of Julie and Jeff Maassen.

Her High school activities include four years of varsity volleyball, serving as captain for two years; track; and Student Council. Her awards include Jefferson City Max Preps player of the year, All-District team for 2017-18, and Kiwanis Student of the Month.

Annabelle is considering attending Central Methodist University to major in sports management.

Emily Christine Baker is the daughter of Besty Simpson and Darek Baker.

Her high school activities include two years of Student Council and Multimedia Club. Her awards include three years on the honor roll.

Emily is considering attending MACC and the University of Missouri to major in neonatal nursing.

Ross Campbell is the son of Susan Campbell.

He is a member of Speech and Debate. He is famous at JCHS for spreading Jay Pride.

Ross is considering a major in communications at Lincoln University or the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Sam Patrick Rackers is the son of Chris and Paige Rackers.

His high school activities include four years in varsity wrestling and four years as an Astronomy Club member. Sam's awards include being named wrestling team captain in 2018-19 and being an All-State wrestler.

Sam plans to major in secondary education.

Blake Conrad is the son of John and Susan Conrad.

He is the captain of the cross country and track teams, the senior class president, vice president of DECA, a four-year Student Council member, and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Blake has received the Jeffersonian Award, All-District, All-Sectional, and Academic All-State Athlete as well as the American Legion Award.

He plans to attend a four-year university to major in finance.

William Kuster is the son of Ben and Regina Kuster.

His high school activities include soccer team captain, wrestling captain, and Astronomy Club president. Will has had the honor of attending Missouri Boy State and won the Thomas Jefferson Award as well as Rotary Student of the Month.

Will plans to major in civil engineering and is currently undecided on a college or university.

Brandon Backues is the son of Bradley and Michelle Backues.

His school activities include football, wrestling and Astronomy Club. Brandon is a four-year football and wrestling letterman and placed in state wrestling.

Brandon plans to major in criminal psychology.
